Each year, the Grand Prix comes to St. Petersburg. And, with that, comes a noise level you can’t even imagine! They shut down several streets, put up huge barricades, and then all the race cars arrive in town. The track weaves in and out of the area, right on city streets, between buildings and stores.
They start doing trial runs on Friday and they then race over and over and over again all weekend long. They start at the ungodly hour of 7:00 a.m., making sleeping in during that weekend impossible. It sounds like a post-apocalyptic plague of gigantic bees are outside and there is no escape, even if you have thick, double-paned, hurricane proof windows and doors.
After our first St. Pete race weekend (when we stayed home and didn’t know any better), we learned our lesson. Since then, we always leave town. This year, two of our not-so-fortunate neighbors stayed behind on the dock and they agreed to watch our boat. I’m glad, too, because I forgot to turn off the hot water heater and I forgot to make sure the bilge pumps were set to auto. Our friend, Derek, took care of that for us last night.
Now, we are going to enjoy a nice, quiet weekend in the country. Aaaaaahhhh…
