Snow…Bird…

We were shopping one night late last week and heard another customer tell the clerk that it was snowing outside. The children got very excited and Max (age 4) yelled, “I want a snowball!!!”

We walked outside with our purchases and were delighted to see beautiful, graceful snowflakes floating to the ground. About an hour later, I heard clicking on the window and discovered the snow had turned into a persistent sleet. But, that was okay. Sleet is pretty, too.

Poor Max jumped out of bed the next morning, eager to go outside and play in the snow. He was very sad when he pulled back the curtains and realized everything had melted.

I once again carted the entire family to the doctor this week for their annual flu shot. For the second year in a row, Max jerked his arm when he was poked and had to be poked twice. Ali (age 14) was due for a regular check-up and I just about fell out of my shoes when they measured her and announced, “Six feet even!” Holy cow! We knew she was tall but the doctor told us she thought Ali would top out at 6 feet around age 18. That means Ali’s grown 2 1/2 inches in the past year. Now the doctor is predicting Ali will top out around 6′ 2″. Ali enjoys her height and, honestly, we feel better knowing she still towers over most of the boys her age. Heh…

Oh, and Ali came out of her room over the weekend and a huge blue jay flew right by her head. We figure one of the cats got it through the doggie door but then dropped the goods. She yelled for Frank (our resident Critter Catcher) who cornered the large bird by the dryer, put a towel over it, and headed for the door.

I kept saying, “Don’t touch it, Frank! Don’t touch it!”

He said, “Don’t worry about it, Mom. I’m not going to hurt it.”

I replied, “That’s not it! I don’t want you to catch bird flu!”

He rolled his eyes as he opened the back door and let the blue jay free.

Hugs to all!
