For the past 18 years, we have hosted the big family Thanksgiving dinner at our house, except for one year when we celebrated in Wisconsin at Richard’s sister’s house. It’s always awesome having everybody over (family and friends) but there’s the pre-holiday cleaning, the crack-of-dawn wake-up for cooking, the all-day cooking, serving and hours of entertaining, and then the post-holiday clean-up. It’s exhausting and, between you and me, it can also be very expensive.
Last Spring, our daughter and her new husband bought their first house. A few weeks later, Ali asked me if they could host Thanksgiving at their house this year. She thought I’d get upset. On the contrary, Richard and I hooped and hollered, and we’re still celebrating!
Here are our Thanksgiving Day plans:
Wake up (late)
Do NOT clean
Do NOT cook
Drive to Ali and Justin’s
Stuff ourselves with amazing goodies (Ali and Justin are professional chefs)
Make Ali’s 4 brothers to do the dishes
Go home and fall into a turkey coma
Having adults kids is GREAT!!!!! 🙂
This week’s Masonism:
One of Mason’s favorite “snacks” is plain spaghetti noodles with butter. Lately, he’s been occasionally passing on the butter altogether. Last night, I asked him, “Butter or not?”
He replied, “None, please. Butter makes it slippery, and less easy to get in my mouth.”
