We look for interesting people, places, and things to share with our readers. While a story submission may seem perfect for us. we'll ask you why that topic/person is any different than anyone ELSE in Missouri doing the same thing. PHOTOS/ART: "None required, but it helps if you tell us of sources we can find photos/art if it's a history piece. Payment depends, usually our staff shoots the pics, although we have been known to purchase a writers photos."
HINTS: "1) Writers need to read Rural Missouri to see the style/tone we like stories to be in. KNOW US before submitting stories. 2) Remember, we're swamped on this end - it will probably truly take 8 weeks before you hear from us. 3) Submission will not be returned; keep a copy! 3) DO NOT submit a first-person account to us. PHOTOS/ART: "We also accept PHOTOS of summer activities. If possible, a description of who, what, when, where, why of the photo is desirable. A story accompanying the photo is also welcome (we pay additionally). Photos should be a minimum of 200 dpi. Inside photos are generally printed at no more than a 4"x4"
size. Cover photos are printed at 8"x10.5" size. Save photos in JPEG, TIFF or EPS format." Pays $15/photo, $30/cover photo.

CURRENT NEEDS: "We are looking for stories, articles, quizzes, poems, games, puzzles, and crafts that are fresh, present the Christian life realistically, and cause young readers to see how God's Word - His Truth - applies to their daily lives. Submissions to Sparkle are selected based on the following criteria: 1. The manuscript must fit with the SparkleMission; 2. The application of Scripture to everyday life; 3. The ability to engage culture˝meaning it must be relevant today while still maintaining and upholding the truth of Scripture; 4. The ability to delight the reader; 5. The ability to cause the reader to evaluate her own life in light of the Truth presented; 6. The ability to teach a practical life skill. Each season, Sparkle dedicates its pages to the exploration of an Annual Theme. (See website for more details.) Compensation for all pieces that are published in Sparkle is made upon publication. Fiction and nonfiction writers receive 3-5ó per word up to $35.00 depending on length, quality, and rights. (See guidelines for list of rights.) Poetry receives $5.00 to $15.00 depending on length, quality, and rights. Games and puzzles are paid from $5.00 to $15.00. All published writers receive two copies of the issue in which their piece is published. Submit complete manuscripts with the following requirements: 1. On the first page put your name, address, and phone number, word count, the issue and topic you are submitting, as well as the rights offered. Indicate fiction or nonfiction. Include desired byline. CURRENT NEEDS: "Stories should be well written speculative fiction. Any well written family-friendly science fiction, fantasy, or horror stories are considered. Do not confuse family-friendly with children's literature. Stories should be written for adults. A flat fee of $50 is paid after acceptance and signing of the author's agreement. All payments are through PayPal. There is no set minimum or maximum length for stories. Stories accepted so far include lengths of a few hundred words to a few thousand words. Works over 7000 words are a tougher sell, but will be considered. All submissions must be through the online story submission form. See the submission guidelines for details and the current link."
PHOTOS/ART: "No photos or art are currently purchased."
HINTS: "Learn what passive sentences are and how not to write them. Show rather than tell what is happening in the story. Find your typos and fix them. Read previously published stories on the blog to make sure you have a feel for the style of stories accepted, and to make sure you are not repeating a story theme or plot."
