Letters To The Editor For June 14th
printable version

Freelance Writing Contract Template Coming SOON!

I'm a faithful reader of your newsletter, and I just wanted to say thank you for your diligence and professionalism. I just read the June 7th article about listings vs. guidelines, and I think it's great that you're working on a free template for freelance writing contracts. I'll keep my eye out for it, and thanks again!

Peace,
Kellye W.

Hmmm... Just a thought for that contract, because of a dilemma I'm dealing with lately. How about putting in it that the author reserves the right to display the clip in a website portfolio or on a portfolio CD? That clause was in a contract I signed with a publication, and I think it's a great idea. That way there's no question, even if the deal is for all rights.

Let me know what you think.

Kathy

Editor's Note: Great idea, Kathy! We'll have our attorney add something about that to the template. :)

Hello, Ang.

Patch Rose from Truth or Consequences.

You are the best! That's what I thought when I read that you're paying your attorney to provide your readers (and all writers) with a free contract template. Can't wait!

And I have very much enjoyed Richard's Internet/Online publishing and promotion articles. Your website is like a free online writing university.

You and Richard are true champions for the working writer. Thanks for all you do!

Angela,

After reading about the charitable organizations you listed, I was struck by a great idea, which I am carrying out. For this Father's Day, instead of sending my father a gift, I'm sending him a letter. In it, I explain that instead of spending money on him, which he has told me is wasted as he doesn't "need" anything, I'm sending a care package to a unit of soldiers stationed in Iraq.

My father is a Vietnam veteran, but even so, I called my mom to make sure that he would enjoy something like this. She confirmed for me that he would be THRILLED to know that some soldiers are receiving a gift of a little comfort on his behalf.

Thanks for the great idea.
