Rain’s Revenge

First, I need to report that my health is back to 100%. I’m completely recovered from what I’m now referring to antibiotic poisoning. The medical bills came in and my two-month illness cost over $5K. But, the important thing is that I am completely recovered and back to living a normal life. Hallelujah!! I even went out for sushi this week. I ordered the huge combo platter – 5 types of sushi and 6 types of sashimi. My mom said, “You are flirting with disaster!”

Anyway, we drove down to Lewiston, Maine last week to visit with journalist and author Mark LaFlamme and his wife, Corey. Since we’ve had so much rain and were under a mudslide warning, we decided to take the truck instead of the RV. This, of course, meant staying in a hotel but that was okay. When you factor in hotel expenses vs. gas for the RV (5-6 miles per gallon), it’s a wash these days.

We all met up at our hotel and walked to a nearby antique store. We then walked to dinner, which was fantastic. We had a great time discussing fun marketing ideas for Mark’s new book. Mason (25 months) didn’t think it was much fun, however, because he promptly fell asleep in my lap.

After dinner, we walked back to the hotel and spent an hour or so socializing. Mark and Corey left and we went to bed. I woke up at 2:00 a.m. and freaked out because my hair was SOAKING wet. I thought I was running a fever and ill again. I sat up the sweat was literally pouring off my hair onto my back. As I was approaching a full-blown panic, that’s when I heard it. “Drip…” And then another “Drip…” I whispered loudly, “RICHARD! TURN ON THE LIGHT!” He did (he’s a very light sleeper). We both looked up. It was pouring outside and the dang ceiling was leaking RIGHT OVER MY PILLOW! My head, pillow and mattress were all soaked.

I dried myself off and put a trashcan on the mattress. I shimmied down to the edge of the bed, pulling Mason along with me. I was up the rest of the night from the drip drip drips! I didn’t want to switch rooms because, if you wake up Mason in the middle of the night, he’s up for the rest of the night.

The next day, I went down for a little chat with the manager. He was very kind, said he appreciated my sense of humor, and comped our $200/night hotel room. That was very nice of him. Oddly enough, that is the only leak they had in the entire hotel – over MY head. Yeah, hardy har har!

This Week’s Maxism:
“Are crayons made out of earwax?”

Hugs to all!
