We’re Fixing the Big Hole in the Boat!

We’re Fixing the Big Hole in the Boat!

Ever since we had the mast pulled, we’ve had a huge hole in the floor. The mast is between the boys’ bedrooms so there have been planks of wood there since then. The boys literally have to “walk the plank” each time they need to use the bathroom. Since the mast is done, the mast boot is in (that keeps water from running down the mast into the boat), and the lifelines are back on again (that was a priority), the floor was next on the list. The boys are very happy about that! No more walking a balance beam several times a day…though I think it’s made them a bit more graceful on their feet. 😉

I can’t believe August is almost over! We have (almost) survived another hot, hot, hot season in Florida! We are crossing our fingers that the hurricane season will stay quiet (knocking on teak!) and that we are spared another extremely wild ride this year. We’ve had hurricanes and tropical storms every year since moving to Florida and this quiet period has been a huge blessing.

33 Worst Mistakes Writers Make About Blind Characters

I admire any writer who wants to tackle a blind character. But so many writers take up this challenge and FAIL. They research blindness by reading other fiction books, by observing their blind colleagues and acquaintances, and by tying on a blindfold and pretending to be blind themselves.

I understand the challenges your characters face, their triumphs, their hopes and their fears, because I've lived them. I work with people who have varying degrees of blindness every day, so I've seen every challenge, every situation you could imagine.

Let me share my knowledge to improve your writing. You can create blind characters that readers will fall in love with.
