World’s Worst “Query Letter!”

This week’s missive will be short but I just had to share this with you. I received the following “query letter” (can we even call it that?!) last week:

I jst went through ur website..jst want to know sme mre in details as i
love to write stories n poems..hope u gv little more details..
Waiting for ur rply..

I admit I was offended. Does she think I’m a 16-year-old “publisher” doing business with a cell phone?!

I wasn’t even going to bother responding but I just couldn’t help myself. Here’s what I sent back:

I’m sorry but we only hire writers who know how to spell. An approach
like yours is deeply insulting to editors. Just some constructive
criticism. Good luck to you.

I expected a smart-aleck response but I didn’t receive one, thank goodness.

I’ll step off my soapbox now…

Angela Hoy is the co-owner of and is the free marketing ezine for writers, which features new paying markets and freelance job listings every Wednesday. According to attorney Mark Levine, author of The Fine Print, is: “As close to perfection as you’re going to find in the world of ebook and POD publishing. The ebook royalties are the highest I’ve ever seen, and the print royalties are better than average. BookLocker understands what new authors experience, and have put together a package that is the best in the business. You can’t go wrong here. Plus, they’re selective and won’t publish any manuscript just because it’s accompanied by a check. Also, the web site is well trafficked. If you can find a POD or epublisher with as much integrity and dedication to selling authors’ books, but with lower POD publishing fees, please let me know.”
