amazon

For those of us whose books are listed on the infinite Amazon platform, working with a ‘900-pound gorilla’ has not always been easy. Small press publishers and authors alike have occasionally had to listen to the temper tantrums of that engorged beast as it flexed its muscles (searching for more bananas, no doubt). As the owner of RK books, I have experienced things that can only be described as ‘Amazon issues’ with one of our titles.

I am looking for real-life hindsight, wisdom and reflections from people who have first-hand experience with the topic I am writing about. I would like a diverse cross-section of people nationally and, even possibly, internationally.

My father and uncle were involved in the 6 day war, and my uncle (a member of the PFLP) was sentenced to 125 years in prison. Long story there. We moved to the USA in 1978 and my father ran the home with an iron fist, became a gang member, and did all that comes along with that life style. He also went to prison for many years. I mean, there is so much to say. Please can you guide me?

…she came out swingin’! She sent me a scathing email, laden with typos (which was odd because she claims to be a “mental health professional” with a PhD), saying that my note to her father forced her to discuss this with her father before she was ready to do so (remember that part for later). She made allegations about her dad being verbally abusive toward his wife. She made some other pretty disturbing accusations about him as well. She said I shouldn’t have contacted him without having medical or psychological training (what?!).

These go-karts (“electric Italian pro-karts”) were going SO FAST! I got nervous because Mason is only 10 years old and he’d never ridden one before. I voiced my hesitation and Mason said, “Don’t worry, Mom. The kids only get to go 25 mph.”
25 MILES PER HOUR?! ACK!!!
I looked around and none of the other parents appeared anxious so I pushed my fears aside, and sat down to watch. A couple of races later, they called Mason’s name for the kids’ race. He listened to the instructions, put on a cloth head covering (I thought, ‘Oh good, he wouldn’t get lice!’) and a huge helmet, and got into his “pro-kart.” The employees helped strap the kids in the cars. Of course, I watched to make sure they strapped Mason in really tight!

book marketing

There are lots of self-published authors out there who have no idea how to write a good book review request! I have read numerous posts and articles from authors claiming they know how to write the best book review requests. The thing is…they are usually wrong. So, I am here today with a few tips for sending in review requests that will hopefully give you more acceptances and fewer rejections.

When I first decided to go on the path of freelance writing, I have to admit that I had my doubts. I mean, there are hundreds of sites out there that post different jobs and opportunities for the freelance writer but it’s the Internet right? I assumed, of course, that not all of these jobs […]
