My Salad Tree

We escaped the northeast flooding and it was sunny and warm here all weekend long. My computer was in the shop so we spent the entire weekend outside.

More About Selling Your Books on eBay

I have also sold some books on eBay, but not as many as you did. I have an ebook on the topic of homeschooling. I listed it first under two categories – non-fiction and education / homeschooling, which is, unfortunately, in the “everything else” category on eBay where no one goes.
I sold more copies under the non-fiction category than in the homeschooling category, so when the auction ended I listed it again only in non-fiction. I sold maybe 10 or 15 copies as ebooks before sales slowed. I didn’t use the featured item, only a gallery photo. You’ve inspired me, though. It’s almost summer, and that means more people are looking at homeschooling as an option for the next school year. I need to get the book ready to sell again for those who may be interested.

Publisher Won’t Give Me a Contract!

A publisher seems to be resisting writing an agreement/contract for my article, which he has already accepted. It was written on spec, and accepted for publication, probably in June. I have requested an agreement/contract more than once. All he does is quote the guidelines, which I know are notoriously unreliable and that writers cannot claim compensation based on them.
What should I do?

Are We Nuts? We’ll Let You Know!

Here’s something you may or may not know about us. While Richard can fix just about any computer or electronic gadget, we usually hire someone to fix things around the house (plumbing, electrical, roof, etc.). We’ve always wanted to be a bit more handy, but just haven’t gotten around to learning about those types of things.

Selling Your Books on eBay

As for the eBay thing… Being a doll collector, I buy most of my stuff on eBay, and I’ve sold some there, too. And I also collect books (mainly older books, first editions, or special editions), so I know what you mean about it being better to list a book in the subject category! The books category is HUGE and most people don’t take the time to wade through it. Although I haven’t published any books yet, I do know enough about the eBay market to know that you’re giving darn good advice.
Anyway, great issue this week – thanks!
Sincerely,
Katharine S. Leppert

Hi Angela,
Just wanted to let you know I read your eBay article in this week’s WritersWeekly.com newsletter. You inspired me to get out an old e-book I published a few years ago, “dust it off,” revise it and get it up on eBay. I listed it yesterday, and sold my first one today! I expect there will be many more orders to come.
Thanks for the great article, and for everything else you and Richard do. You sure make life so much easier for us small writers and publishers!
Hugs,
John

Posting Excerpts Online – What If Someone Copies My Work?!

Maybe I am impatient or just a rookie wanting his stuff to be read but is there an acceptable, safe way to begin posting, in a serialized sense, my book onto a website? I would like to begin getting readers’ reactions but am afraid of someone stealing either the premise or one of the characters of the book (it is character driven).

My Ebay Publishing Success Story By Matthew Sparks

I like to collect things and I design and sell paper models as a hobby business and I have often sold them on eBay. At some point, I got a Toy collectibles book and was going through it checking out the value of toys I had as a kid and I came across “PEP” pins. PEP was a Kellogg’s cereal in the 40’s (before my time). They gave away lithographed pins of comic book characters in each box. They looked fun and, at the time, available, so I started collecting via eBay.
