Never Say Never…

I’m terribly bogged down this week so I have to make this very short. Just want you to know that I did something last weekend that I swore I would never, ever, ever do. I bought…a minivan!

I’ve told the children they are NOT to call it the Mommy Mobile. I have, instead, named it the Vixen Van (“Vixy” for short).

We never buy new vehicles because the depreciation hit would make me ill. Our second vehicle died and we needed something with at least 7 seats. We visited the local car lots to see what they had but didn’t see anything we wanted at a good price. The used ones were all over $12K. Richard wanted to bite the bullet and just do it but I told him I wanted to try to find one much cheaper from an individual. He challenged me to find one that runs and that isn’t in terribly shape for $2K.

I got on Craigslist and was making a down-payment on Vixy just 48 hours later. It runs great, is in excellent condition (I can’t believe the seller has 4 kids!), and, at $2500 (okay, I went a little over budget), was priced $1800 under the blue book value. The seller is a school nurse whose oldest child just left for college and who wanted something with better gas mileage because she has to commute to work.

Everybody’s really proud of old Mom for not getting scammed. I keep thinking something’s going to fall off underneath or that it’s going to start overheating or that it’s going to start leaking one fluid or another. But, for now, Vixy’s doing GREAT!

This week’s Maxism:

After getting into trouble for a minor infraction, Max said, “I wish I could rewind myself.”

Hugs to all!
