Happy Birthday to all our U.S. readers! 🙂

We were going to send the issue out early (yesterday) but that didn’t happen. It would have happened if the toilet and the shower hadn’t backed up simultaneously, leading to much arm waving and head scratching and plunging (both toilet and shower). That led to an emergency call to the plumber, who came out, fixed it, and then showed me a nice catalog with brand new toilets that aren’t rusted out and that don’t use three gallons of water with every flush. Sold!! I asked him while he was at it if could he tell me why we can’t get hot water from either of the bathroom sinks. So, we’re getting new faucets for those, too. Our clogged toilet and shower turned into a very expensive ordeal! It seems everything in this old house we just bought needs to be replaced.

Tonight, we’ll be at Ali’s house on the island having BBQ chicken and potato salad. At dusk, we’ll walk to the beach to watch the fireworks. It’ll be pretty crowded because that part of the island lost about 20 feet of beach in Tropical Storm Debby. I’m sure glad Ali lives within walking distance so we don’t have to drive around looking for a parking place.

In Maine, it was sometimes chilly enough on the 4th of July to wear a sweater. Here in Florida, we’ll be sweating in shorts, tank tops and bathing suits, which is reminiscent of Independence Day holidays while I was growing up in Texas. 😉
