Our house in Maine has been for sale for almost a year now. We had a few bites early on, and a few in the fall, and then nothing. We have steadily dropped the price time and time again, and were finally contacted by a potential buyer last weekend. The price is so low now that we will walk away with nothing. But, that’s better than continuing to pay two house payments each month (as well as paying for double insurance and double taxes). The family that contacted us attended our yard sale before we moved. I remember the woman because, even though the house wasn’t for sale at the time, she asked if she could see the inside so I gave her a tour.
She emailed me last week and said she’s been watching the price drop steadily ever since we put it on the market last year. They have an elderly family member moving in with them so they need a bigger place immediately. It will be a lease/purchase deal for a year, which is fine with us since they offered to pay for the taxes and insurance + rent + an immediate downpayment on the purchase price. They toured the house again last weekend and they still love it! The best part is, since I got the lead myself (the buyers contacted me through an ad I ran on Craigslist), the realtor’s fee will only be 4%.
Then, on Monday, I received a phone call from a man who’s interested in buying our acreage in Dixfield, Maine. We are praying that works out as well!!
We have guests in town again this week. Richard’s dad arrived on Friday and we all spent Sunday cleaning out the garage. We took a whole truckload to Goodwill and put so much stuff at the end of the driveway that we thought the garbage guys were going to waive their middle fingers at us. They carted it all away without complaint, however, and we have so much room in the garage now! Frank even set up his exercise equipment in there. Richard and his dad are going to set up a workshop in there. Hmmm….what should I ask Richard to make for me first? 😉
