We were shopping one night late last week and heard another customer tell the clerk that it was snowing outside. The children got very excited and Max (age 4) yelled, “I want a snowball!!!”
We walked outside with our purchases and were delighted to see beautiful, graceful snowflakes floating to the ground.

Unfortunately, when you own a company that has more than 800 clients (authors), you’re forced to deal with the sad loss of a few of those clients each year. While it is sad to lose someone I’ve exchanged dozens of professional and often personal emails with over the months or years, the aftermath can get pretty ugly. You see, authors of published books leave behind a legacy. And, that legacy is an asset that is often bringing in some money. What’s more, most people tend to think all authors are rich (ha ha). And, any asset that is bringing cash in each month will likely send the survivors in that family into a frenzy.

It’s not very fun to be stuck in a rut. Chances are the last thing you want to do some days is write something, let alone get out of bed! Even though we know it will pass, our doldrums tend to get the best of us. One way to fight the unwelcome moodiness is by understanding why it comes and goes, which we begin through creative writing. Creative Writing is well recognized as a powerful tool for encouraging self-awareness, empathy, and personal change.

Although I have kept journals and written reports for work through the years, I have never considered myself a “writer”. That word evokes images of well-known authors from the past and the present, not someone like me.

Well, Percy came down with the illness Mittens has so we now know it’s “Kennel Cough.” They’re both doing much better. I just hope the other three cats don’t catch it, too. Ali’s really good at giving the animals their medicine. They fight me, but adore Ali so much that they’d let her pour anything down their throats…

We received a card in the mail from Federal Express early last week, sent to our P.O. Box, saying they had something for us. The card said they would return it in 7 days if we didn’t call them for delivery or go pick it up. The “from” line was written in squiggly handwriting and appeared to say “self counsel” but we couldn’t be sure. We’d never heard of that company, but the “counsel” part sure made us think it was from an attorney…
