My Book Is Available As An Ebook Only. Why Isn’t It Selling?

My Book Is Available As An Ebook Only. Why Isn’t It Selling?

Q –

Hi Angie,

I may have written to you before, but I have a degree in creative writing and about 40 years of writing experience. So far, my only two real “successes” were a documentary video that I also co-edited, which was aired coast to coast, and a music album I wrote, recorded, and produced with a friend that got rave reviews, but didn’t sell as well as we had hoped.

Currently, I have two non-fiction e-books for sale on Amazon for $2.99. Both have been rewritten and professionally edited many times. I have done my best to promote them on social media. For example I have a Facebook Page, a Facebook Discussion Group, and a website/blog. I get a fair bit of traffic on the two Facebook sites and a little on the blog, but my sales at Amazon/Kindle are disappointingly low.

My work has been with Amazon long enough now that I am free to advertise it elsewhere. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Angie. I really appreciate your time.

The reason your book sales are low is probably because you only have them available as ebooks. In not offering a print edition, you are shutting out 75% of the market because most folks don’t have dedicated ebook readers. And, many people who do have keep them stashed in a drawer, collecting dust. Yes, many people read ebooks…but many more don’t.

I recommend getting your books into print format. Not only will that likely increase sales, but it will also legitimize your ebooks. Why?

Some book readers think ebook-only titles are cheap because the author never took the time to invest in making a print edition. Perceived value can be low on ebook-only titles. That, too, can hurt sales.

Great advice! I strongly recommend BookLocker for the print form. No, I do not get any kick-back for my recommendation! I also highly recommend Angela’s book: 90 Days Of Promoting Your Book On Line. Again, no kick-back involved. It takes some time to self-promote on-line, but the book is a treasure trove of useful information.
