Paying Markets for Writers, writing career advice

I woke up one day and said, “I want to write humor.” When I sat down at the keyboard, the one-liners and witticisms flew from my fingers like lightning flashes. Now I make tons of money with my laugh-a-second writing.
And if you believe that, I have a boat I’d like to sell you…

I am feeling much better since my surgery. My hemoglobin is creeping upward so my energy level is higher as well. I felt so good last weekend, in fact, that I started my Christmas shopping! It didn’t take too much energy, though, since I was only doing it online. Heh… It was the best Sunday I’ve had in a long time. I sat in bed all day, shopping, watching movies, and also working on a gift I’m making for my mom. I’m calling it the Taj Majal and I’m starting to think it just might not get done in time for Christmas. If not, maybe I can finished it by next Mother’s Day…

As a beauty, fashion and travel writer the formula to get me to tell my readers about a company’s product or place is a very straightforward one.
I receive approximately three hundred email pitches a day from publicists who want to send me samples or invite me to their press event, spa or hotel in hopes that I’ll like it enough to review it. Last week, I shared the story of my surgery last week. I am very tired but feeling better. My hemoglobin level is still quite low, which explains the fatigue. I admit I’m getting very weary of phone calls from doctors offices that have bad news instead of good. 🙁

book marketing, promotional pitfalls

Recently, I noticed a URL for a fictitious website in a book I was formatting. I pasted the URL into my browser and, sure enough, it was a real website. The fictitious usage was for a humorous book but the actual website was a suicide prevention one. Had the author used that URL, it would not have only been in very poor taste, but it could have also resulted in a lawsuit.

As writers, it is your desire to use words that will entertain, educate, and inform the masses of people that may just end up reading them. You may feel obligated to write, or you may look at it as a passion. Writing is considered an art form. Those who partake of it, are looked at as people with unusual talent. Some may also be looked at as weird, isolated, and strange. Nevertheless, the object is to put words down…
