Here’s How We Fared in the Hurricane Last Week!

Here’s How We Fared in the Hurricane Last Week!

We had a super fun time riding out Hurricane Hermine! The morning before it rolled in was overcast, windy, and quite cool. So, we all walked to breakfast, and ate outside. It was heavenly! Later, the sky slowly darkened, the wind increased, and big, fat raindrops began to fall. Then, those big, fat raindrops started flying sideways. It was quite a ride and it was beautiful!

Our Operations Manager, Brian, (who lives on a boat), sustained a small tear on his bimini top and a stubbed toe. He dropped a bottle of beer on his foot when the boat heeled during a big gust and we’ve been teasing him about it ever since. 😉

The building we live in is brand new and (supposedly) hurricane proof. Often, it rains and thunders and we can’t even hear it unless we go out on the porch. The sliding glass door is extremely heavy, and difficult to open and close. And, that’s a GOOD thing because we’ve had a tropical storm AND a hurricane just since we moved here on June 1st. Our poor kitty, Rambo, hates storms. He hides in the bathroom behind the door, and cries whenever thunder and lightning begins. Even if we don’t hear or see a storm coming, Rambo’s cries will alert us.

URGENT NEWS ALERT! The WritersWeekly Fall, 2016 24-Hour Short Story Contest is only 9 days away!

The fall contest always has a crispy, cool theme and it’s our favorite each year!

In case you’re not familiar with our quarterly contest, this is how it works. On the date of the contest, at start-time, we send out the topic for that specific contest to all registered entrants, while also posting it on WritersWeekly.com.

Entrants must be registered before the contest begins and there is a limit of 500 participants per contest. Entrants then have 24 hours to write and submit their stories via email. The stories “must deal with the topic in some way to qualify” and they must not exceed the pre-assigned word count, which is announced with the topic.

We hope you can join the fun a week from Saturday! It’s a hoot!!! 🙂
