If I Publish My Own Work Online, Can I Still Sell First Rights Elsewhere?

Angela,

There are pieces–short fiction and memoirs–on my web site that I want to submit to paying markets. Are those pieces considered “published” and therefore ineligible? If so, would they become eligible if I remove them?

Many thanks for all you do.

Since the pieces are online, they are, technically, published. And, since search engines and sites like the Wayback Machine archive content, the pieces may never actually be “unpublished.”

You can offer them for sale to print publications under first print rights, and to online publications under second electronic rights, or to anyone under reprint rights.
