Today, I’m going to share snippets from some of the worst query letters we’ve received over the past couple of months. Yes, we can learn from others’ mistakes! Featured below are real quotes from query letters submitted to WritersWeekly.com.
Gets right to the point while being punctuation challenged.
Hi. Can I send my articles on this email, f yes, how the company will give me money
A few keys on his keyboard appear to be broken.
hey i want to do a guest post in your website.please reply me as soon as possible with rates of writing article.
Includes several mistakes, including typing errors and the failure to study the market as well as the publication’s guidelines.
I am (name removed) and I have articles that i have written and would like to sell them. The articles are original and they dwell on many topics. please advice me on the way forward if there is a way forward.
Goodness me. I hope not!
“No one has wrote a book like this before.”
Sometimes English as a second language comes across as robotic. He also failed to read the guidelines. Writers should never offer to write a test article. That’s a sure sign of an amateur. Of course, his query letter has already proven that his writing contains numerous errors. An editor on the receiving end of this would not request a sample article, and would certainly not assign one for a fee.

Angela has lived and traveled across the U.S. with her kids in an RV, settled in a river-side home in Bradenton, FL, and lived on a 52 ft Irwin sailboat. WritersWeekly.com - the free marketing ezine for writers, which features new paying markets and freelance job listings every Wednesday.
BookLocker.com - According to attorney Mark Levine, author of The Fine Print, BookLocker is: "As close to perfection as you're going to find in the world of ebook and POD publishing. The ebook royalties are the highest I've ever seen, and the print royalties are better than average. BookLocker understands what new authors experience, and have put together a package that is the best in the business. You can't go wrong here. Plus, they're selective and won't publish any manuscript just because it's accompanied by a check. Also, the web site is well trafficked. If you can find a POD or epublisher with as much integrity and dedication to selling authors' books, but with lower POD publishing fees, please let me know."
Abuzz Press offers FAST and FREE book publication, but only accepts a small percentage of submissions, and only works with U.S. authors.
PubPreppers.com - "We Prep, You Publish!" Print and ebook design for authors who truly want to self-publish. Offers formatting and design services only, and then provides simple instructions for authors on where to sign up to have the print and ebook editions printed/listed/sold. Cut out the middle man. Keep 100% of what bookstores pay for your book!
