I’ve been a writer for most of my life. It’s a solitary profession sometimes. It certainly had been for me. Growing up in a small town meant there weren’t a lot of us “writer-types” around. People would nod and just smile when I told them what I wanted to do. Eventually, I quit saying it out loud. Instead, I devoured writing magazines and dreamed of the day when my writing would make me rich and famous.
That day still hasn’t come but my writing life has become much less solitary – and more successful – since some writers came to town…

worst book proposals and query letters
Dear Angela,
I just read your latest ezine, and ended up back-tracking every column you wrote about real book proposals. If laughing hurt, I’d be in the hospital by now. I can’t imagine sending out any of that stuff.
Thanks for sharing.

I recently read that the author of the Harry Potter series set up her own online store to sell her books direct. She said she is going to make them “device agnostic”. I presume she means so they can be read on any e-book reader. Is there one software program you can use that makes your e-book available to all e-book readers? With so many players now in the e-book business, and so many options, some of which are exclusive to a particular company or device, how do I know as I get ready to self-publish what is the best way to go to ensure anyone with an e-reader can easily buy my book and have it work on their device? Do you make ebooks you publish at BookLocker device agnostic?

Ang,
I always love your World’s Worst Book Proposals. They are incredibly funny. It’s hard to imagine that anyone could “right” so poorly and actually think “there” work would be published.

Last Monday, Percy woke up with one of his “asthma attacks”, which he’s been having for years. When we first got him, a vet said it was asthma, and to just try to calm him down when he’s having an episode. They usually only last a couple of minutes but this one went on and on and on. Percy then started coughing like he wanted to throw up…
