We moved from Maine to Florida in July and we haven’t seen Ali since we left. That’s been very hard on all of us, especially me, her mommy. She stayed behind to finish out the season as a pastry chef in Bar Harbor. Now that the Fall leaves are blowing and the heaters turned on, the season is winding down and Ali, along with her boyfriend, Mikey, are preparing to move down here as well…

People using the Internet to hire a writer often feel reluctant paying a stranger in a remote location for work, but you should not have to submit something on spec that you cannot possibly sell elsewhere. What’s a writer to do?

I am a short story writer, and am putting together a website to market my stories — at a rate of one new story per month. I have the ‘store’ set up with PayPal and my ‘merchandising’ platform close to being ready. However, a self-published author has told me that I need to get each story published through a ‘real’ publishing house, ISBN number, the works, in order to protect that story. Is this true?

At BookLocker.com, we have always provided authors with free copies of their ebooks. It costs us nothing to send the author a copy of their own ebook so why in the world would we charge them to do so? If an author writes in asking for a copy of their ebook, we send it to them – with a smile.
I have no idea what justification other publishers have for charging authors for copies of their own files but there is no shortage of those that do!
