Bookstore On Date Night! Yea!

Richard and I went to the bookstore after our weekly date the other night. For myself, I bought three political books and Orange is the New Black. We’ve watched the series (late at night, after the boys are in bed), and I wanted to see how the book compares to the show. Max (age 12) has wanted to watch the show but we won’t let him, for obvious reasons.

For Max, we bought a World War II book and a novel about witches (he loves creepy stuff). For Mason, we bought three chapter books, including one by Judy Blume.

When we got home, the boys excitedly went through the bookstore bag. Max grabbed MY book, and said, “Yea! You bought me Orange is the New Black!”

Mason grabbed one of Max’s books, and said, “Yea! A World War II book!!”

Don’t worry. I took Orange away from Max. Maybe when he’s 18…

As I am writing this, Mason (age 8) is sitting next to me, reading about a family who is about to be taken away by the Nazis. I don’t know if he’ll ever be interested in reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume.

THIS WEEK’S MASONISM –

The other day, Mason was busy sketching several scenes from the movie Jaws. He had papers spread all over the place and they were very detailed. I said, “Mason, you’re a very good artist!”

Without looking up, he replied, “I’m not planning to be an artist, but thank you.”
