Boo!

Just as soon as I started whining about the weather being too warm for Halloween, the temperatures dropped and the weatherman predicted snow. It hasn’t snowed here on Halloween yet (since we moved her in 2000 anyway), but it did snow before Halloween one year. The red leaves falling on the snow was a incredible sight to behold! Matt reported ice on his car this morning, and said he thought we got some freezing drizzle instead of snow.

We’re supposed to go outside and trim some twigs that still have pretty leaves on them to mail to my mom today. She’s in Texas and her leaves pretty much go from green to brown. When I was growing up in Texas, I’d see pictures of a New England fall in magazines and dream of someday being able to see something so beautiful. And, now, we get to live those pictures every year!

Richard’s dad is coming to visit next week and the children are SO excited. He’s a “cool grandpa.” He gets down on the floor and plays with them, goes sledding with them (though we won’t have snow when he’s here for this visit), calls them all the time, and more. He’s a great guy and it’s always fun when he’s in the house.

Tonight, Richard and I, along with Zach and Alyssa, are taking Max and Mason trick or treating. Max is wearing a scary monster costume. He said, “I want you to paint holes on my face with blood dripping out.” (sigh) Wasn’t it just last year that he wanted to be a puppy dog? My baby’s growing up!!! Max wants us to paint Mason’s face, too, which is probably a good idea because I can’t imagine a 16-month-old wearing a mask. Mason can’t eat the candy he collects (Well, he could, but we won’t let him. He only has 12 teeth!), and Ali and Frank are too old for trick or treating, so I’m pretty sure they’re going to be very nice to Mason tomorrow night!

And speaking of Mason’s eating habits, for the past several months, he has gagged on any foods that have any lumps in them whatever. We would have to break crackers up into crumbs for him and freeze baby food into popsicles to try to entice him to eat something, anything, other than breast milk. Well, he got four molars in quick succession of the past two weeks and he instantly stopped gagging on food. He’ll now eat just about anything you put in front of him with no trouble at all. Thank goodness! I thought he’d be gagging on food until he was three or four, like Max used to do.

And, speaking of Max, he’s lost two teeth in three days. At this point, he’s missing almost as many teeth as he still has.

This Week’s Gross Halloween Maxism:

Max and Mason were playing on the floor by our bed. I couldn’t see them but I could hear tons of giggles. Mason would laugh and then Max would laugh and then Mason would laugh again. It went on and on. Their laughter was contagious and I was started to chuckle myself.

I finally asked, “What are ya’ll doing?”

In mid-giggle, Max replied, “Mason is picking my nose.”
