CURRENT NEEDS: "Shorter, 150-400-word or blurb-style pieces for our front-of-book sections, On Tap and On Tap Life. (On Tap is beer-related, On Tap Life is not). Also, sports- or game-related pieces for our Play department, and lifestyle (non-beer) features for the feature well. Features can focus on anything guys are interested in--cars, sports, adventure, etc.--as well as profile-style pieces on subjects of interest. For instance, we've done features on dream jobs (in which we profiled six guys with amazing jobs) and superfans (we profiled 5 guys whose lives revolve around their favorite team)." Pays $0.50-$1/word, depending on the department and experience of the writer. "Front-of-book pieces range from 150-400 words, pieces for Trek and Play (our travel and sports/games departments, respectively) usually run about 900 words.

PHOTOS/ART: "Ideally, photos accompany stories and are part of the package we negotiate for. Ask for photo guidelines." No additional pay. "We also do photo layouts, with minimal wordage."
HINTS: "Please read the magazine first! I'd say 60 percent of unsolicited mss deal with subjects outside of our geographic area and must automatically be rejected for that reason."
