F&P encourages readers to submit photos, profiles, views, articles and stories to be considered for publishing. Materials should be interesting, informative and/or entertaining and have some relevance to fitness and physique (bodybuilding, fitness, figure, nutrition, weightlifting, dieting, etc.) Contributors agree to grant F&P permission to use materials submitted, in whole or in part, in the publication without claim for compensation. It is the responsibility of the contributor to assure photographer/illustrator permission is obtained for any images submitted. Materials received are assumed to have consent from all parties relating to submitted materials. Any disputes about materials printed by parties claiming ownership should be taken up with the contributor who submitted said materials.

"All submissions must be accompanied by bio and published credits if any. Published writers with credits may send queries. Unpublished writers should send article (on spec) up to 750 words. PHOTOS/ART: "If photos included, must be 300dpi and submitted electronically." Pays $25/photo.
HINTS: The most common mistake is thinking of our reader as elderly in a rocking chair. The most irksome are queries that clearly show no understanding of the publication or are not appropriate for our readership. Articles should be tight and full of useful information."

Imagination Café, P.O. Box 1536, Valparaiso, IN 46384. Email editor - at - imagination-cafe.com. Website http://www.imagination-cafe.com. Rosanne Tolin, Editor. 65% freelance. "A safe, fun 'edutainment' website. Articles in the Career-o-Rama section include interviews with people in careers of all kinds, helping kids to answer the question, 'What do I want to be when I grow up?', while other areas of the website include features on animals, history, science, and sports, plus games, quizzes, and writing contests." Typically works with published writers, "but we're willing to take a look" at new writers. Circ. N/A. Updated continuously. Pays on acceptance. Publishes ms 1 week to 6 months after acceptance. Buys web rights and non-exclusive print rights. Accepts reprints. Responds 1 day to 3 weeks. Sample articles online. Subscription free. PHOTOS/ART: "Photos are a bonus!" Payment is negotiable.
HINTS: "This is not a beginners market. It's imperative that writers look throughout the entire site, reading content in all applicable departments before submitting. Also, remember that this is a KIDS market. Think like a kid--editorial voice is a no-no."

Sensorotika Press, P.O. Box 5222, Winston-Salem, NC, 27113. Email submissions - at - sensorotika.com. Website http://www.sensorotika.com. Piper McCall, Editor; Sabastian Wallace, Contributing Editor. "Sensorotika Press is an erotic fiction imprint, publishing print and e-books featuring many types of erotica. Books published by Sensorotika are available on all major online booksellers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Milllion and Powell's. Sensorotika Press accepts individual short stories, novellas, and novel manuscripts. Potential outlets also include possible online publication." Currently publishes approx. 10 new titles/year, but they are growing. Welcomes new authors. First print run varies. Usually offers royalties only. "There are cases where established authors are approached and offered an advance." Period between acceptance and publication varies. "This is dependent on the specific project. Online stories may be published within mere days or weeks, while printed books generally take several months to sometimes more than a year. Anthologies generally take longer due to multiple authors' involvement, while single author novellas have been released in some cases within three months from acceptance. It truly depends on the individual vision and contributors for a project." Confirms receipt of manuscript within a couple of business days. "Sensorotika Press is determined to give every submission a full review, which means that due to the number of submissions, sometimes a work is reviewed a few times, put down, thought about, read again, etc. Although this is painstaking for the author and for the reviewers, it allows for a more fair process. The goal is that all submissions are reviewed and final response sent to the submitter within two months." Catalog is available online. Guidelines online at http://www.sensorotika.com/Submissions.aspx.
CURRENT NEEDS: "Sensorotika Press is most actively seeking short stories and novellas of romance erotica, in addition to standard erotica. However, specific project needs change frequently. Those can be viewed on sensorotika.com." Pays 35% royalties based on net (35% of the price paid to the publisher by a customer or by a bookstore - bookstore orders are discounted). Payment for short stories and articles that appear in publication is generally per word (usually $0.10/word for articles and $0.03/word for fiction). "Word count is generally 3,000-7,500 for short stories, 50,000-75,000 for novellas and over 100,000 for novels." Submit electronically only per their guidelines.
HINTS: "Common mistakes writers make when submitting could probably fill a book! Editors can usually tell immediately the better authors before they even read the submission, just from way the submission is presented. The worst thing authors can do is ignore the guidelines, sending incorrect formats or making similar mistakes. Cover letters should be included to summarize the story, and include any information about the author that is relevant, such as previously published material. Our reviewers see many submissions with poorly worded cover letters, or with grammatical errors and misspellings. Of course, a perfectly created submission package only goes so far; the submission itself must be worthy of publication. Writers should avoid clichÈs in sex writing, and our editors are NOT looking for 'Penthouse Letters' type of material. New authors should not feel discouraged or intimidated - we are actively looking for the BEST material, regardless of source. Lastly, authors should be aware that the best selling factor in any book is the promotion efforts of the author. Authors who won't do interviews or have a website to promote their works will not sell as well as those who do. An author can attend local bookstores for signings, or approach local bookstores in their area to ask that they stock the book. Sensorotika Press will always work with the authors to do whatever it takes to get their books into an interested book store, so authors should ask!"

Turtle Press, P.O. Box 34010, Santa Fe NM 87594-4010. Website http://www.turtlepress.com. Cynthia Kim, Editor. Publisher of martial arts and eastern sports how-to books. Averages 5 new titles/year. Welcomes new authors. Average first print run 3K. Offers advance. Publishes ms approx. 6-12 months after acceptance. Responds 2-4 weeks. Catalog available at website. CURRENT NEEDS: "Martial arts how-to in the 300-400 page range on subjects we don't currently cover." Pays $1K advance plus 10% royalties (based on gross). Submit proposal letter by mail with SASE.
HINTS: "Interested writers should visit our website and review the type of books we publish."

Wisconsin Trails Magazine, 10 E. Doty St., Suite 200, Madison, WI 53703. P(800)236-8088. Email hbrown - at - journalsentinel.com. Website http://www.wisconsintrails.com. Harriet Brown, Editor (features, essays, profiles); Andrea Bahe (food, reviews, and events). 50%-80% freelance. "Wisconsin Trails is 'The Magazine of Life in Wisconsin.' It features articles on Wisconsin people, history, nature, adventure, lifestyle, arts, sports, recreation and business. We're interested in the out-of-the-way and the popular destinations-but everything must have a Wisconsin tie or connection. We strive to publish writing that takes readers beyond the nuts and bolts of an adventure and shares a sense and spirit of place and people." Works with professional and previously published writers. Circ. 50K. Bimonthly. Pays on publication. Publishes ms 3-12 months after acceptance. Buys first and one-time rights. No reprints. Responds 3-4 months. Subscription $24.95. Guidelines online at http://www.wisconsintrails.com.
CURRENT NEEDS: "We make no assignments without first having a sense of writers'
abilities and previous experience." Pays $40 for short pieces and $0.25/word for features and other departments. Submit cover letter of introduction and at least 2 published clips (if you are new to the magazine), as well as a detailed query letter and bio by mail with SASE or by email.
PHOTOS/ART: "Color photography in slide and transparency form." Payment varies.
HINTS: "Common mistakes: being unfamiliar with the magazine, its content, format, voice and recent coverage. Querying about subjects unrelated to Wisconsin. Mistaking a destination for a story idea--for instance, saying you'd like to write a piece about Green Bay. Badgering editors for assignments. Not following the writers' guidelines for submissions. The inability to be open to editing and constructive criticism meant to improve manuscripts. Sloppiness, submitting manuscripts with typos, factual, inaccuracies, etc. Missing deadlines."
