More World's Worst Book Proposals

Dear Angela:

I have just finished struggling through your World's Worst Book Proposals and I can't stop giggling...but I'm VERY aware that these are funny only because I didn't have to read thru them all, nor do I have to deal with this garbage on a daily basis as you so amazingly continue to do!

Please hang in there!

Sincerely,
Lynne Howe, Lena, IL

Dear Angela,

Wow! I just read More World's Worst Book Proposals from your newsletter. As a writer, I can only guess what editors go through. Every now and then I read something, like your article, that gives me a quick glimpse into your world through a briefly open window.

That was amusing, interesting, and shocking.

Thank you for that peek.

Aloha,
Alina Niemi

Another Author Claims Lulu Not Responding to Problems

I developed a book for the museum trade using Lulu. I bought an ISBN and it has been in distribution for a couple of years. It was formatted as 8 1/2 by 11. A few months ago I ordered some copies of A Tale of the Oregon Trail for a customer and received my books as trade paper size. They were a mess, of course, since the book was formatted for a larger size. Once I purchased the ISBN and published the book, I couldn't go back and change the book without cost.

I tried to convey, several times, this problem. Somehow, someone on their end changed my book size. Lulu was not responsive to my problem and kept trying to blame me. They didn't bother to check my ISBN or even Amazon's listing for the truth. They, instead, found I'd also done a hardback version, still in the larger size, and declared I'd really meant to order that. What!

Do they think I would have been ordering a defective book for TWO years? That's nuts. They will no longer answer my emails on the subject and I have found no other way to get through to them. The one phone number I found just ended up in a run-around.

Thought you should know that as much as I like Lulu, they are no longer "listening" or responding to very real problems. Others need to be aware of this situation.

Thank you.
