My Book Is Available As An Ebook Only. Why Isn’t It Selling?

My Book Is Available As An Ebook Only. Why Isn’t It Selling?

Currently, I have two non-fiction e-books for sale on Amazon for $2.99. Both have been rewritten and professionally edited many times. I have done my best to promote them on social media. For example I have a Facebook Page, a Facebook Discussion Group, and a website/blog. I get a fair bit of traffic on the two Facebook sites and a little on the blog, but my sales at Amazon/Kindle are disappointingly low. …

My name is Nicole and I am a writer who is a bit confused about how to get my stories out there so people can buy them. Basically, what I'm saying is how would I make money off of the stories that I write? Some people advise me to go to writing websites to get an audience. It's a bit confusing. Have I Committed Copyright Infringement? Yes, You HAVE!

Have I Committed Copyright Infringement? Yes, You HAVE!

I'm very impressed of your article on how to create your own anthology. I have almost 250 articles posted online and, honestly, some of them I copied from books but I also include the author and its complete sources. I'm a fan of reading books and I don't have a talent in writing because I didn't earn a degree. My only question is, does my work compromise the law of copyright infringement or plagiarism? If so, can you explain why?…

Should I Sell All My Book’s Rights to This Publisher?

Should I Sell All My Book’s Rights to This Publisher?

There's a question I wanted to pose regarding current negotiations with my publisher. They offered a buyout of my copyright, and claimed the "industry standard" is: buyout = 3 x average yearly royalties. That seems low for a book that's been in publication for 20 years, and continues to sell 4-5 thousand copies a year, and will never become outdated. What do you know about this so-called buyout formula? Thanks!…

How Can I Convince Bookstores To Host A Signing For My New Book?

How Can I Convince Bookstores To Host A Signing For My New Book?

Hello. I am currently in the process of self publishing and soon I want to have a book signing. I have reached out to a few bookstores in preparation. A few of them suggested I email the owner/manager. My question is what kinds of things should I be sure NOT to leave out when I correspond with them via this first email? …

Can I Quote Someone Who Died 50 Years Ago?

Can I Quote Someone Who Died 50 Years Ago?

Would you know if I am violating any intellectual-property laws by quoting a person who died more than 50 years ago? For my next self-published project, I hope to use 100 quotes from a famous person, and then elaborate upon the wisdom contained within. I think I'm within the public domain, but wanted to check with you.…

Should I Send Paperbacks or Hardcovers to Book Reviewers?

Should I Send Paperbacks or Hardcovers to Book Reviewers?

My self-published book is in paperback and hardcover formats. I know the hardcovers are more expensive but I think they are more impressive, and might garner more attention from reviewers. I am looking at this from a business perspective - ROI. What has been your experience?…

You May Own the “Copyright”…But You DON’T Own the Book Rights!

You May Own the “Copyright”…But You DON’T Own the Book Rights!

Could you give me your opinion? Last summer, I sold a short story to a publisher who put it into an e-book anthology. The contract I signed said that I retained the copyright, but the publisher had exclusive rights to publish the story in hardback BOOK form, paperback BOOK form, electronic BOOK form, and audio BOOK form. I found somewhere that pays well for previously published stories, and sells them as e-stories. My husband said it would be the same as an e-book, and would violate my contract. I say that it is like an old 78 rpm single--just one song from a record album. What do you think?…

My Relative Died. Can I Have Their Book Republished Elsewhere?

My son self-published several Christian books with (I think) Lulu and Amazon carries them. On June 24, my son died suddenly from a heart attack. My question is...is there some way I can get copies of his books made through your company, BookLocker.com??…

A Newspaper Stole My Last Idea and Assigned It to Someone Else! What Can I Do?

A Newspaper Stole My Last Idea and Assigned It to Someone Else! What Can I Do?

Recently I submitted a 1,400-word interview to a local newspaper after confirming that the editor would like to see it. I did not hear back from them for six weeks, and sent a polite e-mail last week asking if he still wanted to use the story. I received no reply. Today, a story ran about the same person, written by someone else...…
