What Is An Appropriate Kill Fee?
printable version

Can you advise what an appropriate kill fee is?

If, for example, I was offered £100 for a piece of work, what should I state on my contract as the kill fee if the publication decides not to use my material?

Is there a rough percentage guide - 10%? 25%? 50%? Or is the fee decided by other factors? Your thoughts, please.

If they don't have a standard kill fee, I would add a clause to your contract requesting a 50% kill fee.
