What can you tell me about author submission services?

Author and writer submission services are companies that charge a fee to send out book proposals and freelance article queries, often en masse, to publishers and editors. In my opinion, these are a huge waste of time.

Magazines and publishers don’t like be inundated with material from these types of companies (their slush piles are already deep enough!), and may, in fact, choose not to work with writers/authors who appear too lazy to do the work themselves.
